Does anyone really care about the Golden Globes awards?

besides the Hollywood celebrities looking for yet another excuse to pat themselves on the back for the wonderful work they did entertaining us with their movies. Can anyone actually sit through these awards (Golden Globe, Oscars etc) for hours that seem to stretch to eternity?
